Mixed media art journal

I'm loving this Strathmore art journal, particularly the 5 1/2 x 8 size which is just right for me. I am planning to start a larger size journal in January for a monthly calendar journal page, but generally I like this smaller size.

More art journal pages here and here!

Art Journal Pages

A few recent art journal pages from my 5 1/2 x 8 inch mixed media notebook. I really like this small size, but the spiral binding does get in the way a bit when I want to to double page spreads.

Stash swappers

I recently participated in a stash swap with the Altered Book Swap Group.  These 2 pretty little gals are images sent to me by my swap partner Karen.  They found a lovely home in my art journal!

Thank you Karen for sharing!!

Simple Pamphlet Stitch books

I made a few simple one and 2 signature books with sketch paper sewn into a few different covers, with waxed thread.

I like the look of the floral scrapbook paper covers, but I don't think they are the most sturdy covers. The orange wallpaper sample cover is definitely more durable.

The little notebook is stapled rather than sewn.

What a fantastic time at the St Michael's craft fair this weekend! Lots of friendly shoppers stopped by to chat at our table, which is always fun.

Window for Floating Image

I'm on a Christmas card kick right now, and this card is inspired by the Papertrey Challenge to create an image floating over a window.

Closeup of window:

The tree and sentiment are from the Papertrey Ink Winterberry set. Behind my window are some falling snowflakes made with the Papertrey Ink Winter Penguin set.

Card front:

Inside card:

I really love this idea and will probably try a few a more variations on it. I don't have a lot of punches to make the window, nor do I have a die-cutter! But I do have a small 1-inch hole punch, and I was thinking I'd try a card with a few small windows instead of one large window. So we'll see how that works out!

Easy Fall Card

This clean and simple fall card was put together on a green card base and thin orange card stock. The house stamps and the cloud stamps are from the Unity Finally Fall set. And that's exactly how I feel - it's FINALLY fall!! Yay!

I don't do much Halloween crafting, but I feel like this card combines the Halloween colors of orange & black with a seasonal Fall look.

I was inspired to combine the Moxie Fab world image of houses with the One Layer Wednesday challenge of a Halloween card.

This isn't exactly one layer, but I didn't have any orange cardstock thick enough to make a card base out of. Had to improvise a little bit!

I got this orange card stock at AC Moore and thought it was going to be heavy enough to make cards out of, but it was nothing at all like the thick Papertrey cardstock. Really it's much thinner like patterned paper. Probably shouldn't even be labeled as cardstock! That's OK though, I'm sure I'll find a way to use it all up! :D

Thanks for looking! Enjoy!

Easy Birthday Card

I love the Tuesday Trigger inspiration at Moxie Fab today:

The lettering reminded me of these fantastic October Afternoon letter stickers I have, so I decided to make a clean and simple birthday card with coordinating October Afternoon paper.

I think the paper & stickers are both from the Farmhouse collection, if I remember right. I also added some faux stitching with a white pen and the ribbon is a piece of seam binding.

Assymetry

As I mentioned in my last post, I'm liking tags these days! Here is an asymmetrical tag for the Moxie Fab Asymmetric challenge!

The hardest part about tags is finding an unobtrusive way to prop them up for pictures! :)

- Susan

Color Challenge

This tag is for the Gallon/Quart/Pint Challenge at Moxie Fab!  I used a "gallon" of green,  a "quart" of pink and a "pint" of yellow!

I'm really enjoying making tags lately, the small size is easy to work with and if I mess it up I don't feel bad throwing it out!

Mini Notebook

This mini notebook shows repetition for the Moxie Fab Repetition Challenge! It's a very simple design... and very perfect for carrying around in my purse! :)

Movement

This card is for the Moxie Fab Movement Challenge.

The arrows and the diagonal line of the ink spray are meant to be the movement, so I hope that shows through!  The ink is purple fabric spray ink.

These stamps of from Papertrey Ink - fantastic quality!

Focal Point

This card is for the Moxie Fab Focal Point Challenge.

I used dimensional tape to attach the butterfly, so it really pops! And I used a gray ink for the sentiment rather than black, so that it doesn't detract from the impact of the butterfly.

I really like how the text is so subtle, and I also like the orange & blue color combo!

I took the picture a little crooked, but the card is straight in real life! :)

Typewriter Card

I'm so glad this Moxie Fab challenge was open for 2 weeks, because it's taken awhile for me to have time to participate!

Here's the inspiration photo:

I love the vintage typewriter as well as the fun colors on the keys, so I used all of those for inspiration on my card:

And here's a closer view:

The background is misted with a chickenwire stencil. The Unity typewriter stamp is on a Jillibean Soup journaling card.

Fun and Formal Card

This week's Tuesday Trigger at Moxie Fab is this great photo:

The first thing that jumped out at me is that fun banner, but I just did a banner on my Fab Gift Tag, so I wanted to try something different.

I decided to start with the doily on the table, and then add in a fun mix of casual and formal elements, just like the fancy cake with the cute banner!  So here's my take:

The (fun!) orange card base is stamped with the (formal) banner from Mint Motif. The (formal) doily and rhinestones are accented with a (fun!) touch of baker's twine.

The cake looked like a wedding cake to me, so that's why I went with the Love sentiment.

I hope you like it! Thanks for looking!

Vintage girl collage

This collage started out as a canvas covered with book pages and patterned paper. I used purple fabric spray paint and a stencil cut from a paper doll book to add the shape of a vintage lady. I filled her in with sheet music and a map, plus a watercolor crayon for her hair.

The background has stamping, rub-ons, paint, marker and more patterned paper.

One Layer Birthday Card

This is a very quick birthday card with a background Hero Arts stamp in yellow, and a sentiment in orange, plus a little bit of bling!

This is actually a bright, happy card in real life and its a terrible picture. But I'm a terrible photographer with a terrible camera, so this is the best I can do! :)

Hexagon gift tag

I made this gift tag, along with my triangle tag, for a little bit of a change - to try something other than cards! This tag is inspired by the Hexagon challenge at Moxie Fab:

My tag uses My Mind's Eye kraft hexagon paper over SEI Field Notes pink paper. The sentiment is handwritten.

I cut out 2 of the hexagons and popped them up with foam tape:

Fab Gift Tag

This little gift tag is inspired by the Moxie Fab Tuesday Trigger:

I usually make a card for this challenge, but today I wanted to try something a little different!

The paper and triangle stickers are SEI Field notes. The sentiment stamp is Unity, and the triangle stamp is hand cut.

Simple Thinking of You Card

This clean & simple card uses a flash card style sentiment on cream cardstock, adhered with foam tape over 7gypsies Postale paper.  The stripes give it a candy-striper look to me, so I think I'd use this for a Get Well type of card.

The flashcard was made with a Mint Motif sentiment stamp and Inkadinkado alphabet, with a bit of distress ink around the edges. No idea where I got the ribbons! :)

This card is posted at CASual Fridays!

Thanks!

Slide Mount Art

This card uses a Slide Mount for the focal point, highlighting a star underneath. The slide mount is adhered with foam tape, so this wouldn't be a practical card to send in the mail, but would be a lovely hand-delivered card.

I got this slide mount along with others at a local scrap store. Most of the slide mounts I see are cardboard but this one is plastic, so it definitely has a different look to it.

Here is a closeup of the slide mount, so you can see the depth.

This card uses 7gypsies paper and tape, plus Recollections tape. The star rub-on is from Studio Calico. This card is entered at the Love My Tapes star challenge.

Stamped Love Card

This card uses one of my favorite stamps - the Key collage by Unity. The sentiment is from the same set. I couldn't decide what color ribbon or lace to add to this card, and the gray cardstock and gray and black inks definitely needed a bit of color. So I went with yellow, since the gray/yellow combo seems to be hot right now!

This card is entered at the Moxie Fab love challenge.
